After kicking off the final leg of their reunion tour a few days back, last night My Chemical Romance unveiled a very special treat for fans down under.
At the second night (March 14) of their two shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Gerard Way began the encore by announcing that fans kept asking the band to play the Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge song Cemetery Drive. Only it hadn’t been rehearsed, so they decided to honour those that’d been asking – with a twist…
“I don’t want a lot of light,” begins the vocalist at the start of fan-shot footage from the moment. “So I’ve met a lot of cool people here, walking around. And almost everybody I’ve met, they said, ‘Are you playing this song?’ Anyway, I’m gonna cut out all the bullshit. I met somebody and they said, ‘Oh, could you play this one song?’ And I said, ‘Ah, fuck, we didn’t rehearse that.’ But Jamie [Muhoberac, keyboards] and I are gonna do this…”
We’re gonna be honest: while hearing Cemetery Drive a cappella with just Gerard’s vocals and the piano is undeniably incredible, the fan that exclaims, “Holy fucking shit!” at the start of the performance is equally brilliant.
