Having had to postpone their New Zealand and Australia comeback shows to 2023, last night My Chemical Romance were finally able to kick off the last leg of their massive reunion tour.
The New Jersey emo heroes headlined the huge Outer Fields in Western Springs, Auckland on March 11 for the first of their gigs down under, before they head over to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Then, on March 25 they’ll play Japan, and their current final tour date takes place in Osaka at Punkspring 2023 the following night.
As for their first show of 2023, they launched straight into incredible 2022 comeback single The Foundations Of Decay (can we get more new music already, plz?), before going into some seriously big-hitters and fan-favourites – I’m Not Okay (I Promise) into Boy Division into Give ’Em Hell, Kid and This Is How I Disappear.
Elsewhere they threw things back with Our Lady Of Sorrows, as well as playing plenty of stuff from their most recent album Danger Days: DESTROYA, Na Na Na, Vampire Money, Planetary (GO!) and The Kids From Yesterday. The single-song encore was the always-epic Welcome To The Black Parade.
