‘WAKE UP!’ System Of A Down seem to be teasing something

A week on from announcing a surprise trio of North American stadium dates (and then selling them out and adding even more), System Of A Down appear to be teasing something else…

It’s been a time of fairly sporadic activity from the Armenian-American metal titans these past few years, with the band playing one-off live dates and releasing two standalone singles in 2020. Now, though, they may be doing more. But what exactly could it entail?!

SOAD have just taken to social media to post a quick video featuring an eye opening along with the words ‘WAKE UP!’ (which are of course the first couple of words on 2001’s iconic Chop Suey! single) and the song playing in the background.

It’s captioned systemofadown.com, and if you visit the site, it says: “Join the mailing list to be the first to know about the latest news, tour updates, and exclusive merch from System Of A Down.”

Given this teaser is a nod to an old song, it could be a celebration for Toxicity – but that record turns 24 next year, so it’s not your typical round-number anniversary for a potential tour or reissue (then again, My Chem are doing The Black Parade in full in 2025 which is an equally random 18 years on from the album release).

New music seems unlikely too, given that in September we spoke to bassist Shavo Odadjian about his new band Seven Hours After Violet, and he said that, “It felt so good and so exhilarating to be able to do that again. I've been lacking that in my life, because of System not working together, and not being able to express myself musically like that.”

So… what’s going on?!
