Here Are The Most Commonly-Used Words In Slipknot's Lyrics

We all know Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor writes some pretty original and deeply unsettling lyrics. Who else could pen masterful turns of phrase like, 'I want to slit your throat and fuck the wound,' or 'I'm not pretty, and I'm not cool / But I'm fat and ugly and proud, so fuck you?'

That said, there are definitely words that show up repeatedly throughout the band's career. Now, one dedicated Reddit user in r/Slipknot has made a map of them that shows Slipknot's most commonly-used words.

What might surprise some, but actually makes a ton of sense on second thought, is that the band's most commonly used word is 'never.' Runners up include 'away,' 'inside,' 'just,' and, of course, 'fuck.'

'Never' is actually an obvious winner when one considers how many Slipknot tracks have iconic lyrics featuring the word:

• Duality – 'Jesus, it never ends, it works its way inside'
• Disasterpiece – 'You'll never get out, 'cause you were never alive'
• I Am Hated – 'But what's inside of me, you'll never know'
• Surfacing – 'Get this, 'cause you're never gonna get me'
• Unsainted – 'I'll never kill myself to save my soul'

What's also notable about 'never' being Slipknot's most commonly-used word is that it speaks to the band's way of defining themselves by going against the grain. Slipknot might not know what they are in this insane world, but it sure as shit isn't everyone else, so what they won't do and refuse to be is a vital part of who they are.
