Australian genre-blender Zheani has shared a brand-new seven-song EP – her first through UK label Dirty Hit – I Hate People On The Internet.
Discussing how the record came about, the alt. trap-metal artist explains: “I wrote and recorded the majority of the project in the mountains of northern [New South Wales, Australia]. Despite technically being 'isolated' I realised I was still very much literally plugged in, with most of the information I was reacting to emotionally coming from the internet. I felt a hatred grow inside me of 'people' but quickly realised I wasn’t spending time with people, and that that hate was in fact of people 'on the internet'. Disembodied, difficult to empathise with, faceless and themselves marred by hate. It was a venomous cycle.
“I hate people on the internet explores hate. The hate projected by others from without and the hate of self from deep within. Hate that is fuelled by fear, jealousy, and rage. The righteous hatred of lies and the sinister self-loathing that takes so many innocent young lives. Hatred has many poisonous faces and exists in every human heart.
“Perhaps if you scream along some the poison hate in your own heart may be purged.”
