YUNGBLUD: “I made a f*cking rock opera double album”
Having been busy putting together the line-up for next year’s Bludfest, YUNGBLUD has revealed he’s also been working on music that “looks like it’s going to be a double album”.
See YUNGBLUD team up with Nigerian musician BNXN for a wonderful cover of Primal Scream’s 1991 classic Movin’ On Up.
YUNGBLUD has recorded a fantastically uplifting new cover of Primal Scream’s Movin’ On Up with Nigerian musician BNXN.
As part of Coke Studios’ 2023 line-up, the pair joined forces in London – along with gospel singers and some brilliant musicians – to tackle the 1991 single. “It was amazing to be given the opportunity to cover this classic anthem,” says YUNGBLUD. “Primal Scream are one of my favourite bands of all time and to be given the honour to take it on in this prestigious studio was incredible. To put a new spin on it with BNXN was amazing too.
“The energy in the room that day we recorded was joyous and that really comes across in the performance,” he continues. “I’m excited for my fans to hear this version, but equally excited for new fans from BNXN’s world and fans of Primal Scream to discover this really special performance.”
BNXN adds: “The process was amazing and I’m happy we were able to connect. YUNGBLUD is an extremely talented musician and the fact that he creates something totally different and raw is what made me intrigued about everything. I was really excited to fuse the sounds we both create into something amazing and I’m glad we did that.
“This is something generations to come would see and appreciate at the same time, because I don’t think it’s something we see every day especially in Nigeria. Rock/metal fusing with Afrobeats is something else and I’m just glad to be a part of it.”
