Watch Rare Footage Of AC/DC's 1979 Performance Of Highway To Hell

The 40th anniversary of AC/DC’s classic Highway To Hell is creeping up in a few days (July 27, for the faithful). In light of this special anniversary, the band has released rare video footage from their Plug Me In DVD box on their YouTube channel. If you were never able to get the DVD, you can now watch AC/DC performing Highway To Hell at the Dutch TV show Countdown from July 13, 1979.

The balance of energy between the band and the audience is simply incredible. You can tell the crowd knows they are witnessing an important piece of rock’n’roll history in the making.

Recent suspicion of an upcoming tour has been floating around, after a Kansas radio station claimed a “source” told them the band will be releasing details of a “2019-2020 world tour” on Wednesday...meaning today. Nothing yet, but keep your ears peeled.

Aside from the greatness that is Highway To Hell, Kerrang! put AC/DC’s If You Want Blood on our list of best live albums. Less than six months after the release of fifth album Powerage, there had been plans for an AC/DC Greatest Hits collection, but it was scrapped in favour of something much better -- the Australian band’s first live album. Recorded on April 30, 1978 at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, If You Want Blood captures the vitality of a band who were still only a few years into their career at the time, but who had already conquered the world. More importantly, it’s a striking document of the talent and prowess of original vocalist Bon Scott, who would die less than two years after the gig took place.
