Metallica have shared their drenched set from Manchester last year on the WorldWired tour.
This week's Metallica Mondays is one of the band's most breathtaking streams yet, filmed at the at Etihad Stadium in Manchester last summer (yes, really) on the band's huge WorldWired tour… only on this night in particular, it was absolutely pissing it down.
"It was a kickass show," enthuses bassist Rob Trujillo in the introduction to the video. "My memories of it are pretty clear: it was an infamous rainy gig, just pounding rain (laughs). Great for the photo op, and memorable – just very powerful to be playing out there. Sometimes those conditions bring this insane energy, and the backdrop is pretty spectacular. Not the easiest gig to play, but pretty memorable."

Reflecting on the setlist, Rob continues: "One thing I do remember is playing Disposable Heroes – that was really cool. We don't play that one that much, but it's always a joy to play. It's one of my favourite Metallica songs ever, and it's super-fun to play; it's got that groove, head-pulse, and it just gets you going. We also played God That Failed, which is another rare gem, and that's super-fun. Playing Here Comes Revenge for, I think, the first time, and then having that animation on the giant screens was super-cool, and Jessica Cope, the actual director of the video and the creator of all the imagery, she was out there in the crowd because she lives close to Manchester, so that was really great for her to see it on those massive screens; it was a highlight moment. I mean, Welcome Home (Sanitarium)… St. Anger was even played… Lords Of Summer towards the end of the set… it was a great night!
"The other highlight for me was playing [I Wanna Be] Adored by The Stone Roses with Kirk as our duet slot. Hearing that guitar melody sing through the stadium, and everybody was singing. That was cool, because that is a great band, and a very powerful bassline."
