12 essential Sleep Token songs you need to know
From early 2017 highlight Nazareth to viral singles Chokehold and The Summoning from Take Me Back To Eden, here’s your ultimate round-up of Sleep Token’s most significant songs…
Exclusive: The newest track by Typecaste is a result of hardcore's long, hallowed history.
For Typecaste, hardcore is a syncretized tradition. The Long Island, New York/Boston, Massachusetts-based quintet don't sound like they're attempting to mimic the attitude of one generation of hardcore or another, but rather combine the most effective parts of the genre's many phases into something heavy-handed and deadly. The starkness of early California, the barbaric charge of tun-of-the-millennium Connecticut, even the nu-metal-inspired sounds of today -- all are present in the band's jaw-shaking riffs and sickening breakdowns.
The band's new track Traverse, off of their upcoming album Between Life, has the combination of these diverse accents down to a science. The song begins with a thick, stomping rhythm, but featuring vocal patterns and song structure unlike your usual beatdown track. From there, things get nastier and nastier, leading to a swamp-deep breakdown that drags at the listener with healthy doses of death metal and sludge. All the while, vocalist Dylan Carlo shrieks and spews over the entire thing with tireless fury and solid high-low-medium gang vocals throughout.
"Traverse was the third track Sean finished and sent over to me," says Dylan of Traverse. "The track is in whole about meditation. More precisely it's about pushing yourself while doing it and the feeling while coming out of it.”
