“I’m freaking out!” Linkin Park’s new album From Zero hits Number One in the UK charts
See Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong accepting their trophy from the Official Charts to celebrate Linkin Park’s new album From Zero hitting Number One.
Watch as Big Eyes eat off silver platters, play golf, and poke at the ultra-rich in their video for Lucky You.
If you spend even 30 seconds Googling Brooklyn’s Big Eyes, you’ll find about 10 reviews comparing songwriter/guitarist Kait Eldridge’s gritty, sassy, punk-rock singing style to that of Joan Jett. And yeah, the lineage is certainly there, but to leave it at that is reductive; there’s a weight to it (albeit a catchy, hair-swinging, fun weight) that makes you feel like your you’ve known her songs your whole life -- and it lends itself to infectiously catchy rock 'n' roll. The upbeat, nostalgic single Lucky You is no different: In the brand new video, which we’re premiering below, the band plays slapstick caricatures of the obnoxious ultra-rich: They eat off of literal silver platters, play golf, and have patient wait-staff serve them glass after glass of champagne, all the while rocking out in fancy outfits.
“Lucky You is about the lack of awareness people often have concerning their privilege, and the abundance of entitlement that often accompanies wealth,” Kait explains. This song is not about class war. Some people are just born into lucky circumstances. It's a reminder for everyone to recognize their privilege, be grateful for what you have, and stand up for those who aren't quite as lucky.”
She continues, “There are a few Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the video, so pay close attention to the small details and quick edits for some extra laughs!”
On Big Eyes’ previous work, Kait says she wrote mostly from her own experiences. But on Streets Of The Lost, she branched out, writing from the perspective of others. “Streets Of The Lost is an album for anyone skirting around the edges of society: the punks and street-dwellers, the revolutionists and experimenters, the forgotten and the lost.”
