Australia’s Soundwave Festival Has Been Cancelled

Soundwave Festival in Australia has been forced to cancel its 2016 bash after poor ticket sales.

A series of allegations have been made by promoter AJ Maddah, who believes the festival’s ticketing partner failed to make funds available to pay bands on the line-up, including Bring Me The Horizon and NOFX.

AJ took to Twitter to explain the cancellation, stating: “Essentially here are the brief facts: Eventopia were supposed to give SW a scheduled advance to pay deposits to NOFX and BMTH. Their CFO changed her mind and decided not make the advance but didn’t tell anyone. so we (SW & bands) waited and waited for $. If they had informed us that scheduled funds were cancelled we could have made other arrangements. So now we are in bad situation.Thank you to all the fans, bands and people who supported the event for the last 12 years. I wish we could have ended it on a better note.”

In response to these tweets, Eventopia have released their own statement giving their side of the story – read it below:

We regret to inform customers of the cancellation of Soundwave Festival 2016 due to poor ticket sales, as advised by the Promoter this afternoon.Eventopia was appointed as the ticket sales agent for the Soundwave Festival to be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in January 2016.

Throughout the onsale period, Eventopia complied with all of its obligations under its ticketing services agreement with the Soundwave Festival Promoter, Hounds of Hell Pty Ltd.In line with our ticketing sales agreement, the Festival Promoter is responsible for all ticketing funds that were advanced, and is directly liable to all ticket purchasers for issuing customer refunds.

Customers should contact the Promoter of the Festival directly to request their ticket refund in full using the contact details supplied below.Eventopia will keep all Soundwave Festival customers informed of the progress of the situation as more information becomes available.”
