Green Day, The Prodigy, Amyl And The Sniffers, Speed and more for Coachella 2025
Green Day, the original Misfits, Amyl And The Sniffers, GEL and more are coming to the California desert in 2025…
Billie Joe Armstrong has now ruled out the planned movie adaptation for Green Day's 2004 album American Idiot.
It's been several years since talk of the movie adaptation of Green Day's American Idiot was brought up, with the last known information about the planned HBO film was that it "had the green light" and the script was "going through a couple of rewrites here and there".
Now, though, Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed that the movie has been "pretty much scrapped". There's been no reason given as to why the band's legendary 2004 record won't be hitting the big screen, though the frontman did add that, for some reason, Donald Trump turned up to the opening night of the American Idiot Broadway show in New York. Er… maybe they've cancelled the film to avoid something like that ever happening again?!

Of course, Green Day have plenty to focus on right now anyway, having just released Father Of All… – their 4K-rated new album. And though its provocative title could well be aimed at The Donald, Billie Joe told Kerrang! that the band were staying away from the overt politics of an album like American Idiot this time around.
“I draw no inspiration from the president of the United States, because he’s just… there’s nothing,” he said. “Trump gives me diarrhoea, you know? (Laughs) I don’t want to write a song about it!”
Instead, the lyrics are "coming from a place of feeling like you’re out of control, and you’re not in charge of your own body anymore,” says Billie Joe. “It paints pictures or vignettes of what life is like for me and for other people that, I feel like, are desperate. And I mean that in an empathetic way, where people in America have become very desperate with their situations. There’s factories being shut down, gentrification…”
