Who are Slipknot’s fans?
We head down to Slipknot’s Here Comes The Pain tour in Manchester to meet the Maggots that had their lives changed forever by nine masked men from the cornfields…
Slipknot's Clown has revealed the band have around 15 songs that don't appear on new album We Are Not Your Kind – “at least seven or eight that are recorded with vocals”.
We're just over a week away from the release of Slipknot's highly-anticipated new record, We Are Not Your Kind, and the band's own Shawn 'Clown' Crahan has revealed how incredibly fruitful their creative sessions have been this time around for album number six.
In an exclusive interview with Kerrang!, Clown reflects on the beginning of the album-making process to now, and how things have panned out.
“Did we know that this was going to be the album? No. No-one knows. There’s another 15 songs that didn’t make the cut – there’s at least seven or eight songs that are recorded, with vocals, that did not make this album. There’s so much material, but all that material whittled this down to its anomaly, and to its presentation.”
When asked what's going to happen to these other songs, and why they didn't make the cut, Clown responds elusively: “Usually you take your collection of records, and you make an album. So we have a bunch of records, and we have to basically decide which ones of those records can make up a thought process known as We Are Not Your Kind.”
Does that mean we'll hear even more new music following the release of We Are Not Your Kind? Given Slipknot's ongoing creative process and their tendency to revisit older, unfinished ideas, concepts and demos when working on a new record, perhaps not. But it's nevertheless an exciting thing to know that there's even more music out there in the ether that we might get to hear one day…
In other Slipknot news, the Iowa titans recently confirmed a 2020 European tour, revealing the cities they'd be hitting along with a We Are Not Your Kind ticket collaboration: if you pre-order the record before 11:30pm UK time on August 8 (the day before it is released), you’ll get an exclusive pre-sale code granting early access to tickets. Get on that right here.
The band’s huge Knotfest Roadshow U.S. tour kicked off last Friday.
At Saturday's show in San Bernadino, California, frontman Corey Taylor was forced to temporarily halt proceedings after crowd surges and mosh-pits got too out of control.
