Stomping boogie. Raw glam. Punk’n’roll. Blues bashing. Primitive heavy metal exaltation. Sweat and confidence. We like these guys.

Power Agree That Rock'n'Roll Worth Its Weight Should Make You Feel Something Deep In Your Bones

Australian trio Power made a record called Electric Glitter Boogie a while back. It's hard to follow a record with a title like that, but while they've probably already peaked in the album title game, they've managed to hone their grubby punk'n'roll further of late, and last week they released the less excitingly titled but definitely even better sounding Turned On. Check it out:

(Lickspittler is our favourite, btw. Check it out.)

Stomping boogie. Raw glam. Punk’n’roll. Blues bashing. Primitive heavy metal exaltation. Sweat and confidence. It's not often the adjectives used in a press release to describe a band actually apply, but jeez louise all those words are the correct words for this stuff. You're on board right? We're on board. This is good fun.

We had a quick chat with Power's singer and guitarist Nathan (pictured doing the damn thing, above) just for fun:

Hi Nathan! Who does what in Power?
Penke’s on drums, Isaac’s on bass and I take care of guitar and singing. We write all the songs together.

Do you guys party? You sound like you party.
We play rock’n’roll, and I reckon any good rock’n’roll worth its weight should make you feel something deep in your bones. Now, it doesn’t matter whether that something is your anxieties rearing their ugly head as the devil that haunts your soul, or if it’s that feeling of sheer joy, a euphoria overloading your senses and that makes you remember that beauty still can exist. It doesn’t matter what the feeling is so long as there’s something to it, you know? I guess you can associate those feelings with your state of mind at the tail end of a session, 5am, sun rising and no one is talking any sense anymore just as easily as you could associate it with a good lifting session after working a 10 hour day. Whatever floats your boat, as long as it sounds good. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

What's Lickspittler about?
A lickspittler is someone who sucks up to power. I thought it’d be a laugh write a song about. It’s about putting on a brave face and fighting the way through the stress and depravity of working life and not allowing yourself to become the type of person who compromises their integrity to get ahead of someone else. I think that’s a pretty important thing in regard to being a decent human, not changing masks to suit the world around you, but staying true to whatever the hell it is you think are. Also, it’s about union members sticking up to dog bosses. This is as political as I’ll ever get as a poet so giddy up.

Are you guys down with legendary Aussie punks the Cosmic Psychos?
They were kind enough to give us a few shows with them on their last tour for a new album they put out. Good band, good blokes and i am very much into the way they put their heart and soul into it every night.

What are your feelings on Motörhead?
They’re very important to us. Not sure what I can tell you that hasn’t already been said but I don’t think any other three-pieces that can come close to ’em. Cut me pretty deep to hear about the passing of Fast Eddie earlier this year. He’s one of the greats. Him and Rory Gallagher are the reason why I’ll only play a Stratocaster.

When are you coming to the States/the UK?
We’ll come round when we can, mate. Cheers!

Thanks, Nathan!
