While She Sleeps unveil North American tour dates with Bury Tomorrow and Vended
While She Sleeps are hitting North America next April, and they’re “bringing a bunch of friends with us”.
Hourglass is the latest cut from Normandie’s forthcoming album, Dopamine, about a terrible age in which humans can no longer feel anything normally.
Swedish metallers Normandie have joined forces with Bury Tomorrow singer Dani Winter-Bates for their new single, Hourglass.
It's the latest track from their new album, Dopamine, coming on February 9, and arrives as part of the band's 'dopamine clinic' which sees them dropping a new song at the start of each month leading up to the album.
Explaining the track's lyrics, singer Philip Strand says that it's about “death, and how if we come to terms with it and accept it, we can find new life in the pain. Everything that ever was has always ended, all flowers fade.”
This fits in with Dopamine's overarching theme of a fictional but not to hard to imagine world in which people's brains have been worn out by overstimulation to the point where they can no longer feel emotions or reactions naturally. Instead, it's administered by drugs, as your soul continues to wear away.
“The whole album is about the chase for different highs and natural chemicals: oxytocin, serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, adrenaline,” says Philip. “What if dopamine had to be clinically provided because we've burned through our receptors?
“Making this album futuristic and dystopian came very naturally when we started discussing the current state of the world. We’re all on overdrive. We’re upping the stakes all the time, and everybody has a higher tolerance now for stress in a way that nobody saw coming.
“Back in the old days you were sowing potatoes and that was your one goal for the day - we were hunter-gatherers and we were just there to provide for our families. Today, we have so many things going on. We’re taught to chase our dreams, but chasing something in the future means you might miss the moment.”
Catch Normandie taking this on the road early next year.
