“We hope to be able to play for the fans there soon…” say My Chemical Romance of their cancelled Ukraine and Russia gigs.
My Chemical Romance are the latest band to announce tour date cancellations amid the current Russia-Ukraine war.
As part of their huge, long-awaited comeback tour, the New Jersey emo legends were originally scheduled to performa in St. Petersburg and Moscow on June 16 – 17, and Kyiv on June 19, but those three dates have now been scrapped.
“With deep regret, My Chemical Romance is cancelling our Ukraine and Russia shows in June 2022," say the band. "We hope to be able to play for the fans there soon.”
The likes of Green Day, Bring Me The Horizon, twenty one pilots and more have all done the same.
In a statement announcing their cancellations, BMTH wrote: “In solidarity with Ukraine and to stand against the atrocities being committed by Russian leadership, we must cancel our forthcoming dates in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
“Ukraine is an incredibly special place for us. We have toured and made numerous music videos there, making lots of strong bonds and lifelong friendships. We are in awe of the bravery demonstrated right now by the Ukrainian people, and we pray for a return to peace as soon as possible.
“Russia, we also want to acknowledge that the atrocities being committed by Russian leadership does not reflect the ideals or beliefs of the incredible people we have met there.
“We will be using our platform and voice to do what we can to support Ukraine in these incredibly difficult times.”
Meanwhile, twenty one pilots said: “Due to the current tragic events, it is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of our Moscow show. This news feels insignificant given the gravity of what is happening. Peace will win and we hope for a time we can visit you again. We stand with Ukraine.”
