Linkin Park Have Been Working On New Music

Linkin Park bassist Dave 'Phoenix' Farrell has said in a new interview that the band had been writing new music before COVID-19 struck, and while that has been put "on pause" for now due to the remote nature of lockdown, he is still "working up ideas" and being creative at home.

"At this point right now, I think globally we're all doing a version of the same thing, you know, trying to stay home and trying to stay as healthy as possible," Phoenix tells Dan Nicholl of Dan Really Likes Wine, as the pair live-taste wine via video call.

The musician elaborates that he has still been keeping in touch with his Linkin Park bandmates regularly, continuing, "For us, with the band, we've been kinda writing and doing that before this all started, so casually at this point we're doing Zoom meetings to eat lunch together and say, 'Hi.' But we're not able to get together and write or do that whole bit. So working at home a little bit, working up ideas.

"I've been playing a lot of drums, just to do something new – I've been doing that for the last year, year and a half, and purposely making as much noise as possible to create my own space in the house."

In another interview this week, Phoenix also said: "Band-wise, we're always kinda writing, we're always working on new music right now. Obviously with what's going on with the international situation we're a little bit on pause on all that."

Back in 2018, Phoenix told Sirius XM’s Volume West of the possibility of another Linkin Park record: “It’s a big question. I think the easiest way to answer it is probably just to say I don’t know. And then I can expound upon that.

“The five of us, we still love getting a chance to hang out. We hang out quite a bit. I think we will do music again. We all want to. We all still enjoy being together and being around each other.”
