Killswitch Engage return with brand-new album, This Consequence
Six years on from 2019’s Atonement, Killswitch Engage will be releasing This Consequence in February: “It’s the exact record we needed to make…”
Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam D weighs in on the trend of anniversary tours.
2019 is turning into a bang-up year for metalcore heavy-hitters Killswitch Engage. The band just released a bunch of co-headlining dates with Clutch, and have only recently announced that their new album has been mastered and will be due out in the fall.
But this year also marks a huge milestone for the band: the 15th anniversary of The End Of Heartache, the 2004 breakthrough album rocketed the band to superstardom. And yet, if you ask founding Killswitch guitarist and producer Adam Dutkiewicz about the anniversary, it’s not something about which the band is concerning themselves.
“It’s kind of just a flash in the band, and then we move on for the next thing,” Adam D told us when Kerrang! spoke to him about End Of Heartache’s 15th birthday. “We’re in the middle of trying to set up the new record. It’s funny, our bassist, Mike [D’Antonio], was like 'Hey, should we be thinking about doing a 15th anniversary tour for this record?’ and I was like 'No! We should be thinking about this new record!’”
According to Adam, the recent focus on album anniversaries, and the tours supporting them on which the band play the honored album in full, are a little overdone -- and take the focus away from a band’s current efforts.
“We shouldn’t live in the past, y’know?” says Adam. “I feel like there’s been too much of that recently. Maybe more people should focus on writing more material, and not just trying to rehash stuff, y’know? There’s just too much of that!
“I’m happy that everyone agreed with me that it wasn’t a good idea,” he continued, “especially because we literally just finished our new record. So we have things to worry about.”
