Last night Sum 41, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, ROAM and Biters hit Cardiff for night two of the Kerrang! Tour – and this is what happened…
We’re joining this year’s line-up on the road to get all the backstage gossip from the four bands on the bill, so check back to Kerrang.com each day for a new blog from every date of the tour, and keep up-to-date with all the action on our Instagram account (@kerrangmagazine_). Kerrang! Tour 2016 – Day Two – Cardiff
Spirits are high as day two of the Kerrang! Tour kicks off – but it’s not long until Mother Nature gets right in the way and puts a spanner in the works. The ferry bringing the bands from Dublin over to Cardiff gets stuck as the tide goes down, leaving the tour temporarily stranded. Oops.
Once things get up and running again, it’s straight to Cardiff Students’ Union’s Great Hall for a late soundcheck. Phew.
ROAM make their way in after the rest of the bands, having booked a later ferry over. It’s straight to catering for them, as they pile up the delicious grub and watch Sum 41 soundchecking across the room. Perfect pre-show entertainment, that is.
Before long, doors are open, and Biters are getting set to open proceedings. On his way to the stage, frontman Tuk spots Kerrang! picking at the food outside the dressing rooms, and advises against eating too much bread. He’s full of excellent rock’n’roll advice.
After Biters teach Cardiff a damn fine lesson in rock, ROAM battle their way through some technical issues and keep momentum up with tracks from their brilliant debut album, Backbone. Tune after tune after tune.
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are on typically firey form this evening, as Frank sets his sights on a circle-pit surrounding the sound-desk, before leading a huge sing-along to I Hate You. Watching a whole room with their middle fingers in the air really doesn’t get old, it has to be said.
Finally, it’s Sum 41 time! After inviting some lucky fans up to watch the whole show onstage (and lose their minds in the process), the headliners blast through Motivation, The Hell Song, Still Waiting and more, skipping out the night before’s Metallica and Queen covers in favour of pure pop-punk. We’re not complaining.
Your move, Birmingham…
