This weekend, Slipknot will perform to tens of thousands at Sick New World in Las Vegas. It's a crowd they've become accustomed to over their career, selling out arenas and topping festivals across the globe. But last night in Pioneertown, California, at the Pappy And Harriet's barbecue restaurant, the Iowan wrecking machine took a trip back in time to 1999 with a very special throwback set.
In their classic red boiler suits that OG fans will be all too familiar with, Slipknot ripped the faces off the few hundred lucky maggots gathered in the garden of the restaurant. Sporting all-new masks – including a killer throwback from Corey Taylor complete with signature dreadlocks – and giving their new as-yet-unnamed drummer his first proper outing, the Nine powered through a blistering 15-song set that veered from debut album staples Eyeless and Surfacing through to fan-favourites Vermilion and Custer. No fucking around, just a vicious undiluted reminder of what Slipknot are still one of the greatest and most formidable bands of all time.
