Album review: Touché Amoré – Spiral In A Straight Line
Los Angeles post-hardcore legends Touché Amoré aim for the stars again on sixth album.
Belatedly celebrating 25 years of their classic album, Refused have brought together everyone from GEL to Ho99o9 to IDLES for The Shape Of Punk To Come Obliterated.
Happy The Shape Of Punk To Come Obliterated release day!
Ahead of Refused’s break-up and 2025 farewell tour, the Swedish legends have recruited some of the best names in the scene to celebrate and reimagine their classic 1998 album.
So, they’ve gotten GEL to kick things off with Worms Of The Senses / Faculties Of The Skull, then the likes of Brutus doing The Deadly Rhythm, Ho99o9 tackling New Noise, Touché Amoré closing proceedings with The Apollo Programme Was A Hoax, and also IDLES doing a remix of New Noise (it is an iconic single, after all).
“Refused was one of the first shows I went to and the first time I was up front,” shares GEL’s Sami Kaiser. “It was a charismatic performance and rowdy crowd and it definitely contributed to my love of heavier music and the live shows that demonstrate the energy of the music authentically.”
Anaiah Lei of ZULU – who have covered Protest Song ’68 – previously said that they’ve “always been a Refused fan and even had the chance to tour with them back in 2012 with my old band. This record was definitely top 10 in my list of favourite hardcore albums and it was an honour to get to play a song off it. Especially this one because I’m like, ‘Y’all made this in the mid ’90s?’ Way ahead of its time!’”
