Halsey says when making music for her upcoming album, “I tried to do whatever I’d been wanting to do, but hadn’t tried yet…”
Following June’s beautifully honest comeback single The End, Halsey has been teasing what else is to come from their next musical era.
The New Jersey star has been answering fans’ questions on Twitter/X regarding her long-awaited new album – which will be the follow-up to the Nine Inch Nails-produced If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.
When asked if Halsey’s new music will be like 2020’s Manic “and have mixed genres? Or more cohesive??” they reveal that it’ll be “all over the place”. Given her newly-documented health struggles these past couple of years, she explains: “When I started writing it, I thought it might be the last album I ever got the chance to make. So I tried to do whatever I’d been wanting to do, but hadn’t tried yet.”
And in response to a fan’s question about the “inspiration” behind the still-to-be-announced record, Halsey shares that, “I wrote a lot about what I was going through. I felt like I couldn’t tell anyone, though it was mostly my choice to not. but the weight of it all and looking at my life wondering if I was happy with who I was. While simultaneously changing against my will. more on that later lol.”
Interestingly, Halsey also says that The End was the first song written for the album – but they “updated some of the lyrics as my life changed. Believe it or not it was a lot sadder before haha. but it’s mostly the same as the very first voice note.”
