Billie Joe Armstrong explains Green Day's explosive new video for Father Of All…
To coincide with the release of their explosive new video for Father Of All…, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has explained the clip's meaning – and what he wants fans to take away from it.
While the punk rock titans told Kerrang! about their new single and album's sound and how they "want to fuck with people", Billie Joe says of the video that it's about "dancing, anxiety, tribalism, joy, and straight-up violence".
"It’s the history of us – meaning all of us," the frontman continues. "None of this is choreographed… (except the hotties in red) we don’t need to be choreographed… just lose your shit… scream like no-one is listening… dance like your hair is on fire. punk soul rockers! Crawl on the dance floor… spit in the air… get weird."

And Father Of All… – which is due out in February next year – is set to see Green Day embrace this mischievous side even further.
“There’s a very fine line threading the needle for us, because we do want to try new things, but we always want to make sure it’s absolute Green Day, you know?” Billie Joe tells Kerrang!. “It’s a very fine line – clever and stupid (laughs). But Green Day’s credo is mischief, no matter what. We’re always down for mischief and we want to fuck with people… to the point of it being abusive!”
“Do you want to go back and do the same old thing?” drummer Tré Cool continues. “We don’t want to do what everyone would expect us to do, so it was just kinda mischief and making it fun. That was the bottom line of it.”

And check out the lyrics as well, so you can "scream like no-one is listening" as per Billie Joe's request:
I woke up to a message of love
choking up on the smoke from above
I’m obsessed with the poison and us
what a mess because there’s no-one to trust
Huh uh Come on honey
huh uh count your money
huh uh what’s so funny?
there’s a riot living inside of us
I got paranoia baby
and it’s so hysterical
cracking up under the pressure
looking for a miracle
Huh uh come on honey
lying in a bed of blood and money
Huh uh what’s so funny?
We are rivals in the riot inside us
I’m impressed with the presence of none
I’m possessed by the heat of the sun
Hurry up cause I’m making a fuss
Fingers up
Cause there’s no-one to trust
