Billie Joe Armstrong celebrates his bandmate's birthday with an awesome cover of Kim Wilde's Kids In America.
The latest instalment of Billie Joe Armstrong's No Fun Mondays is twice as awesome this week, with the Green Day frontman paying tribute to his bandmate Mike Dirnt on the bassist's 48th birthday on May 4.
"This week’s No Fun Mondays is dedicated to the one, the only, Mike Dirnt," announced Billie. "Happy birthday! Play this one loud just for him: We’re The Kids In America, originally by Kim Wilde and then recorded later by The Muffs."

Last week, Billie said that he was still keeping in touch with the band while in lockdown: “Mike is basically becoming like a farmer right now – he’s been growing his own vegetables. But he’s also organising his record collection. And then Tré [Cool] has just been hanging out with his wife Sara and their baby Mickey, and trying to play drums as much as he can.”
The frontman also referenced Green Day's planned Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, stating, “We were all ready to start going on tour, and we had to postpone a bunch of dates. Everyone was ready to go on tour and play together again, but it just kinda got sidelined for now.”
Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz recently commented on the uncertain situation regarding the Hella Mega Tour, too, admitting, “Nobody knows anything and it’s hard because we really want to do this tour.”
“Two weeks before quarantine began, we got together and rehearsed our set with our staging, our video and our lights because it’s a stadium, so you can’t just do it the week before,” he said.
“Now it’s like we’re circling, waiting to land. Nobody knows anything and it’s hard because we really want to do this tour. It was a hard thing to orchestrate because there are three bands, you have to figure out who’s doing what and everyone had to really want to do it. I know as much as you do about what’s going to happen with it.”
