The Kerrang! countdown of the 50 albums that shaped 2024.
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
It’s been a busy year of shows for Green Day, but frontman Billie Joe Armstrong clearly isn’t taking a break just yet: he’s announced a surprise, intimate gig in London next month with The Coverups.
Billie and his covers band – Green Day touring guitarist Jason White, plus Bill Schneider and Chris Dugan – visited the capital in February this year for two very special dates, including an onstage appearance from Courtney Love. And now they’re coming back again, announcing a performance at London’s intimate O2 Academy Islington on Wednesday, January 15, with tickets on sale now.
A couple of months back, Billie released a new record with Pinhead Gunpowder, while at the start of 2024 of course Green Day returned with the awesome Saviors.
In our round-up of the best albums of this year, we said that, “Joining back up with producer Rob Cavallo, album 14 hears the Oakland legends effortlessly flexing their songwriting powers, from the classic punk of Look Ma, No Brains! and 1981 to the infectious, explosive Coma City and brutally honest Dilemma. And yet, as killer as it all is, you wouldn’t put it past the trio to keep the commotion going for decades still to come…”
A few months after this Coverups gig, Green Day will be back in the UK to headline Download Festival for the first time – get your tickets now.
