Green Day perform Holiday, Basket Case and more for first live performance in almost a year

While 2020 was supposed to be the year we would enjoy Green Day hitting stadiums around the world with Fall Out Boy and Weezer on The Hella Mega Tour, instead the band were only able to play a handful of shows before coronavirus struck. But, for the first time in almost a year, the band performed live once again – for the 10th annual NFL Honors.

Vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tré Cool and touring guitarist Jason White hit Inglewood, California for a three-song set outside the SoFi Stadium over the weekend, running through 2016's Still Breathing, 2004's Holiday and 1994 Dookie classic Basket Case. And not only was it brilliant to see the guys back onstage again, they also brought a hefty load of pyro and fireworks to make the occasion even more special.

Fingers crossed, of course, that this could still just be a warm-up for the rescheduled Hella Mega Tour. With its opening date set for June 9 in Vienna, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo revealed earlier this year, "My manager just told me yesterday that the U.S. promoter is still saying it’s gonna happen. That could change, but I’m not making any other plans for the summer."
