Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Joined by The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas, Green Day’s epic North American headline tour began in Washington, D.C. last night (July 29).
Exactly one month on from wrapping up the European and UK leg of their Saviors Tour with a sold-out show at Wembley Stadium, Green Day’s massive North American run officially began last night (July 29).
For this two-month stint the band have brought along a fantastic supporting cast of The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas, and they all kicked things off yesterday at the massive Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Unfortunately Rancid and the Pumpkins’ sets were seemingly cut short due to bad weather, but the headliners were unaffected and still able to tear through a phenomenal 37-song setlist – including, as promised, Dookie and American Idiot in full.
In fact, Green Day’s set hasn’t changed from Europe and the UK: they’re still opening with Saviors’ lead single The American Dream Is Killing Me, before going straight into the first of two album celebrations with Dookie.
After their 1994 classic LP there’s a six-song break which opens with Know Your Enemy, then three more from Saviors (Look Ma, No Brains!, One Eyed Bastard and Dilemma – maybe at some point they’ll throw in Corvette Summer after releasing a music video for that song last week?), plus Minority and Brain Stew.
Then comes the American Idiot segment of the show, with Billie Joe Armstrong changing the lyrics last night – as he has done before – in the title-track to, ‘I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.’ Finally, after all 57 minutes of that iconic record, they finish things up with Bobby Sox and Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). Phew.
