In this week's issue of Kerrang!, we catch up with the almighty Ghost, heading deep inside their latest sinister chapter on brilliant new album Prequelle.
The elusive main brain behind the group, Tobias Forge, opens up about the dark Black Death themes behind the band's fourth full-length ("You should be aware of death being ever so close…"), as well as giving us his thoughts on Donald Trump, their well-documented 2017 legal problems, taking over from Metallica and Iron Maiden when the day comes, and much, much more. It really is one hell of a chat.
Reflecting on Ghost's 2015 effort, though, he recalls: “Already before Meliora, I had two albums in mind. One was supposed to be a futuristic, super-urban record that takes place in a not-traditionally doom environment – no cemeteries or any of that sort of thing. It was supposed to be a record that was infused with the idea of the absence of God. Prequelle is the answer to that, where the hand of doom has come down and struck upon this godless society. For a long time it was referred to as ‘The Plague Album’. The Plague was such a manifestation of God’s wrath. This is, in a similar way, the hangover from Meliora.”
If you're a Ghost fan – and you bloody well should be – be sure to pick up this week's not-to-be-missed chat with Tobias right here.
Ghost's new album Prequelle is set for release on June 1 via Spinefarm.
