Well, this is exciting. John Purkey, an old friend of Kurt Cobain's, recently uploaded four videos containing cassette recordings of Nirvana demos from the late 80's.

Purkey says that the cassettes were given to him by Cobain at the time. They consist of early recordings of songs that would eventually make it to Bleach, a few tracks recorded with Melvins drummer Dale Crover and some pre-Dave Grohl Nevermind demos that include Chad Channing on drums.

The tapes total around two hours of raw, unpolished material and well worth a listen.

We know you're busy people, so we've put all the videos - including Purkey's captions - below for your listening pleasure.

Enjoy:

"This is the first tape Kurt gave to me. Sound quality is not perfect but it's not too bad. It is listenable. Paper cuts sounds a little warbaly [sic] at first and that is exactly how it was when Kurt gave it to me. I got used to it. It slowly becomes clear sounding."

"This is the second of four demos that Kurt game me back between 1988 and 1990"

"This was the tape he gave me after they recorded songs for what would become Bleach."

"Recorded with Chad produced by Butch Vig. I think it is known as the smart studio demo. Kurt started high speed dubbing at the beginning of pay to play. To can hear a slight glitch when he pressed the high speed button."

Here's a video of John Purkey detailing how his relationship with the band began:
