Damnation festival has revealed that Swedish prog-metal overlords Opeth are topping the bill at this year's all-dayer. Held at Leeds University Union on November 2, this will be the 15th annual instalment of Damnation.
"We are very excited to play this year’s Damnation," say Opeth, "and hopefully we’ll be able to play a few new songs along with tracks from our older records."
"You could argue Opeth are too big for an event like Damnation, and you'd probably be right - they headlined Wembley Arena after all," says Damnation organiser Gavin McInally. "So it's an incredible coup, and a genuine honour, to welcome a headliner of such stature to Damnation."
Eight more bands have also been announced for this year's Damnation, including Birds In Row, Lord Dying, Jo Quail and Imperial Triumphant.
"Imperial Triumphant has the distinct pleasure of making their first trek to the United Kingdom so luxurious, thanks to their new hosts Damnation," say the band. "Is the UK ready to join the golden ritual?"
The initial announcement is rounded off with Wheel, Alunah, Dawn Ray'd and Godeater.
Damnation takes place on November 2 in Leeds and tickets are available now.
