Corey Taylor On Why He Wouldn’t Make A Good Doctor Who

After lending his roar to The Fisher King in the latest episode of Doctor Who, Corey Taylor has revealed that he doesn’t actually think he’d make a very good Doctor himself…

The Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman got involved with the iconic BBC series as an alien warlord over the weekend, having been approached by the Doctor Who production team earlier in the year about a cameo in the show.

However, the avid Doctor Who enthusiast doesn’t reckon he could follow in the footsteps of Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, David Tennant et al because he’s lacking in the British accent department. Right.

So, would you, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, make for a good Doctor?

“No. Just because I’m not British.”

Your British accent isn’t very good, then?

“[Adopts the worst British accent you’ll ever hear] ‘Oh no, it’s rubbish, int’it?’ See, I felt like a dick (laughs). Doctor Who is so quintessentially British, it’d be like me playing Sherlock Holmes, or me playing James Bond. There’s something so wonderfully British about the Doctor that I don’t see anyone but a British person playing the role. Even if they changed genders – which I think they totally could, and it’d totally fucking work – I don’t see anyone other than a Brit playing it. And if they did, I don’t know how it would work. I mean, look at Eric Roberts playing The Master in the movie they did with the eight Doctor. It just doesn’t work! And I get it, it’s like Americans are the perfect villains for a Doctor Who film, but it just didn’t work for me, despite my fondness for that movie. I think the more it stays in that world, the better it work, because it’s true to its nature. Although I would fucking totally be the Doctor in a heartbeat if they asked me!”
