Who are Slipknot’s fans?
We head down to Slipknot’s Here Comes The Pain tour in Manchester to meet the Maggots that had their lives changed forever by nine masked men from the cornfields…
Corey Taylor on how "cancelation isn't solving the problem" – and how he doesn't see "a way of things getting better".
Following the release of his latest single Culture Head last week, Corey Taylor has discussed the song's subject matter – cancel culture – and how he doesn't see the situation online improving anytime soon.
With lyrics like, 'Now I don't want to blame anyone, but now and then you just love abuse / You don't have to blame anyone… so fuck you and you and you and you and you,' Culture Head is another typically outspoken track from the Slipknot frontman – with Corey lamenting to NME about "the toxicity" and "the way people speak to each other" that inspired it.
"It’s just so rampant and so ferocious and I don’t, for the first time in my life, see a way out," he says. "I don’t see a way of things getting better. And I really wish I could. I try not to let it get me down, but how can you not?"

Going on to ponder the effects of it all, Corey emphasises that we should "hold these people to what they've done", but that "cancelation isn't solving the problem".
"In a way you’re making the problem worse," he continues. "That’s where this ‘progressive generation’ doesn’t fucking understand because it’s more complicated than something they can read on a phone."
When asked if he's ever been on the receiving end of cancel culture, Corey says: "Well, there’s a great antithesis to it all, which is just to go, ‘Fuck you.’ You don’t get to cancel me. Do you think you and your hordes can cancel me? Fuck off. You know, it’s the egotism of a horde that thinks that they can just absolutely cancel someone and destroy their livelihood. It’s a case of the medicine not fitting the illness."
Corey will be releasing his debut solo album CMFT later this week, as well as performing a very special release-day show – Forum Or Against ’Em – in Los Angeles on October 2.
“I’ve been saying since the beginning I’d find a way to bring this music and this band to the people,” the musician says. “And I’m honoured that The Forum let us do just that. It’s CMFT in its entirety. It’s songs I’ve shared over the years. It’s a celebration, and I’m so stoked to party with all of you.”
