Clown: "I got very creative" on potential new Slipknot material during the pandemic

Excitement is continuing to ramp up for Slipknot's next album, with Shawn 'Clown' Crahan revealing he's been "very creative" on new music over lockdown.

In an interview with Knotfest.com, the musician explains that nothing is finished yet as not all the band have heard everything, but the pandemic has nevertheless forced Clown into a period of creativity following 2019's incredible We Are Not Your Kind album.

"Right now, the pandemic hit, and it made me creative," Clown explains (via Blabbermouth). "And if anybody's mad at me for being creative, I don't know what to say about it. But I know that we can use all of it, or none of it – I don't care either way. So I will let you know, maybe we will use all of it or none of it – either way, we don't need to make it confusing. But I will play it until [DJ] Sid Wilson has said what he wants to say, listened to every ounce, been able to take his time. I point him out, because he has not been one of the people yet to be here; that's gonna happen very soon, as I go into his location, and doing the same thing."

He states that he won't reveal how much material has been created just yet – because then people will "bug" him – but Clown nevertheless stresses that, "Everybody just needs to know I'm in my basement, with my stuff, doing my thing, with my friends, the way we want to. There's no-one telling us anything… And Corey Taylor has gotten almost all of it and partaken on almost on all of it, which has made it a completely other sort of weird thing. But I'm going on record right now that we could be talking about one song."

In March, Corey claimed that Slipknot were "expanding" on what they did on their previous record, and possibly even venturing into "conceptual" territories.

"Me and Clown have talked about something really, really cool, if we can pull it off," the vocalist said. "There’s a chance that it could be conceptual, if we can really do it right.

"I mean, the music is brilliant. It expands on what we did with We Are Not Your Kind – it kind of blossoms from there – but the great thing is, it’s got not only that, but it’s got everything that you would want from a Slipknot project; there’s the heavy stuff, there’s the dark stuff, there’s the melodic stuff, there’s the weird stuff. We have so many different flavours that we can play with that, now, at this point, it’s just us kind of mixing and matching and seeing what excites us.

“That’s all I can say for right now," he concluded. "But I can tell you that it’s really, really good, man. We’re entering a realm that we’ve never been, and that, to us, is exciting – especially after all of these years. We pride ourselves on always being able to try and top ourselves, and if we can pull this off, this may be the ultimate 'top ourselves'."
