Live review: Beartooth, London Alexandra Palace
Ohio’s finest metalcore exports Beartooth step up to the plate at their biggest UK headline show to date.
Two B-sides from Beartooth's Disease album have arrived!
Following the songs' release on Record Store Day, Beartooth have unveiled two new B-sides: Takeover and Messed Up.
The tracks were created during the writing and recording sessions for last year's Disease album, with frontman Caleb Shomo promising to Kerrang! at the time of the record's announcement that there'd be plenty more music to come.
“All in all, I’d written over 20 full songs – probably 24, if I had to guess. It was really hard to narrow it down from that many songs, and over 30 ideas, to a 12-song album,” he said. “There are gonna be a lot of fucking B-sides (laughs). I think, at the end of the day, it came down to what songs made it feel like a record. When we started chopping songs down, the main thing was lyrically did it really make sense with the album? Because the album, in its purest form, is this inner monologue of me just talking about the things that most people would never talk about – and I don’t even wanna talk about myself. So if there were songs that maybe didn’t feel as genuine, lyrically, then they would get cut off the record. It was really the lyrics and the energy that made us whittle it down.”
Explaining what he'd do with the many songs that didn't make the cut, he continued: “There were some of them that were pretty good, and some that needed a little more work, so I’m basically just going to pick and choose what songs might have a place on the fourth album and save those, and then the others I’ll probably release as B-sides. But then I’ll also try and start from a clean slate for the next record.”
