London's Raven Records to host The Musicians Coven event
"Come and find your future bandmates" at the sober social in Camden
Australian alt.rockers Violent Soho find hope in disaster on Everything Is A-OK…
Given how 2020 is going so far, particularly if you’re Australian and already had to watch fires burn across your homeland, it’s hard to keep faith with the notion that things are entirely tickety-boo. It’s easier to endorse the muscular yet breezy contents of this fifth album, though, made by a band who have been too explicit with their influences in the past to be appreciated in their own right.
Not that they’ve necessarily reinvented the wheel here; Violent Soho's thematic focus isn’t particularly original this time around, chronicling, as many have, the narcissism and weakened bonds caused by society’s reliance on social media.
And while this unsurprising target receives a similarly unsurprising treatment, the likes of Pick It Up Again and Lying On The Floor feel like the kind of songs we need right now – moody and downtrodden, but lined with enough sunshine to strike a chord of hope.
Verdict: 3/5
