Bay Area thrash legends Testament continue to bring the pain on Titans Of Creation…
In 1983, Metallica relocated from their home city of Los Angeles to the East Bay. Their reason for doing so was to be among the ‘trues’ of San Francisco and beyond, a collection of bands and fans that showed them the kind of love that was absent in the City Of Angels. Among this number was a band called Legacy, who became Testament, and who have endured as one of the finest exponents of the ‘Bay Area Crunch’.
Still a force to be reckoned with, Titans Of Creation – the quintet’s 13th studio album – is packed tight with the precision and power that they’ve made their own for more than 30 years. On tracks such as the hectic WWIII and Curse Of Osiris, Testament sound as forceful as they ever did, and in lead guitarist Alex Skolnick and drummer Gene Hoglan, the band also have in their ranks two of the finest practitioners in the history of the genre that they helped to shape. Proof, were it needed, that Testament are still titans.
Verdict: 4/5
