World premiere date announced for new This Is GWAR documentary
GWAR's new feature-length documentary – directed by Scott Barber – will premiere at Texas' Fantastic Fest in September.
A new feature-length GWAR documentary entitled This Is GWAR will premiere next month at Austin, Texas' Fantastic Fest.
The Scott Barber-directed flick – which has a running time of 110 minutes – will debut at the event, which takes place from September 23 – 30. A description reads: "GWAR is the galaxy’s greatest rock'n'roll band, an intergalactic troupe of marauders who crash-landed in Antarctica and are committed to rocking your face off. But they’re also a bunch of amazing artists from Virginia determined to put on the wildest, bloodiest show you’ve ever seen. This is how."

Longtime GWAR associate Bob Gorman tells Consequence of This Is GWAR: "The story that emerges shows the trials and tribulations of GWAR. The founders of this band deserve credit, and that perspective is in there, but it also follows the story of those who have lived with the band and sought to keep it alive these many years."
As well as interviews and footage with band members past and present (including the late Dave Brockie – aka Oderus Urungus), the documentary reportedly features the likes of Weird Al Yankovic, Thomas Lennon, Bam Margera, Alex Winter and more.
Meanwhile, of Fantastic Fest as a whole, Director of Programming Annick Mahnert enthuses of the event: "We’re thrilled at how the program is coming together. For this Post-Apocalyptic edition, we’ve scoured the four corners of the globe to find weird, silly, terrifying, entertaining and fantastic movies directed by established and emerging filmmakers. Opening this year’s fest with a Palme d’Or winner from a Fantastic Fest alum is a real treat. As always, we also try to find unforgettable repertoire titles, and we couldn’t be happier about hosting the U.S. premiere of the new restoration of Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession. This first wave is but the tip of the iceberg and we cannot wait to unveil the rest of the program to y'all!"
