Watch Shakira Cover Green Day's Basket Case
Hips Don't Lie singer Shakira covered Green Day's smash hit Basket Case in the studio over the weekend.
Green Day are obviously one of the biggest (and best) bands on the planet, with a whole range of fans from outside the world of punk rock. And one of those names is seemingly pop star Shakira, who randomly decided to cover Basket Case over the weekend.
The Hips Don't Lie singer was in the studio with her producer when she tackled the Dookie smash single, posting a caption alongside a video of the short cover reading: "Me, being a basket case with my producer…"
And while her take on Basket Case doesn't have the snotty attitude of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, it's nevertheless a minute of poppy acoustic loveliness.

Billie Joe himself commented on the cover, writing, "I love this", while bassist Mike Dirnt added, "Bacano!" which is a Colombian slang word for "Cool!" Amazing.
Check it out below.
In a recent video testing out his signature MXR Dookie Drive pedal, Billie Joe explained the sound of the band’s 1994 breakthrough third album – and how you can create the same style.
“I think that the guitar sounds on Dookie and [1995 follow-up] Insomniac are very heavy,” he said. “We grew up listening to The Ramones, and Bob Mould’s sound from Hüsker Dü, and Sex Pistols. It’s just been something that’s stuck with me, always chasing good tone and trying to get the ultimate rock sound.
“If there’s one thing that you listen to on the Dookie record, I would say it was the ‘Dookie sound’ that would be in the verses, but then when we wanted more power, we turned it up. You can really hear it in a song like She, where the verse goes and then when it kicks into the chorus that big heavy guitar with more distortion kinda comes right up the middle. It was just trying to go from loud to louder.”
