Watch Fred Armisen impersonate different eras of punk and alternative on Jimmy Fallon

Fred Armisen showed off his guitar talents and punk knowledge in a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Comedy legend Fred Armisen put his punk and alternative knowledge out there for all to see by impersonating many different eras of the genre in a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Between the 1970s and the 2000s, Fred demonstrates the strumming and vocal styles and how things changed and progressed as the years went by – from the more rhythmic likes of The Velvet Underground earlier on to The Ramones and CBGBs-type artists in the mid-’70s.

Then Fred crosses the pond over to England for the iconic punk that came out in 1977, before moving on to post-punk in the early-’80s, the likes of Sonic Youth in the mid-to-late-’80s, the "playful" ska of the early-’90s, the Seattle influence and more. Basically, if you want a quick (and very amusing) musical history lesson in punk, this is a fun way to have a recap!
