twenty one pilots Will Release A New Album Sooner Than They Planned
Tyler Joseph has revealed he's writing the next twenty one pilots record "right now".
It's been just over a month since twenty one pilots released their first new music in two years – the uplifting standalone single Level Of Concern – and frontman Tyler Joseph has now revealed that he's working on the band's next album.
The musician says that we could be hearing the follow-up to 2018's Trench sooner than the band – completed by drummer Josh Dun – had originally planned, with extra time under lockdown providing the time to do this (twenty one pilots were scheduled to hit Europe in the summer for festivals, as well as playing a couple of other shows both in the U.S. and around the world, but presumably coronavirus has meant that these will be postponed).

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Tyler reveals, "I'm writing a record right now. I'm not sure when it'll be released, but it's definitely going to be really sooner than we were planning on releasing a record."
Pondering if it will follow on from the Trench storyline or go in a completely different direction, the frontman continues, "I don't know if it's this in-between record or if it's a continuation of the narrative and where we left off. It's kind of hard for me to tap into the story of Trench and what we've been building on up until that point without being out there, without touring, without having those live shows, without interacting with our fans."
Tyler also discusses the future of music in general in the chat with Zane, adding, “I’m excited for what music is going to look like. Not just for us but for everyone. We talked about this potential over-saturation of new music. It’s exciting, though, because the way that Josh and I always approached, not just music but also specifically festivals, is we enjoy a sense of competition. We enjoy a sense of trying to release something and break through the noise.”
