“It’s about the single most significant period of fear and anxiety I have ever had in my life”: Listen to Trash Boat’s new single Break You
Trash Boat have released their first new music of 2024 in the form of Break You – listen now!
Hertfordshire favourites Trash Boat have released a brand-new single, Break You, ahead of their upcoming headline show at London's Heaven next month.
Speaking about the track, frontman Tobi Duncan explains that Break You was written about his recent battles with anxiety and how it completely took over his life.
“Break You is about the single most significant period of fear and anxiety I have ever had in my life, I’ve never felt anything like it before or since,” says Tobi.
“Not a clue where it came from or how it happened, but I was reduced to a constant feeling of indiscriminate fear, not of anything in particular, just fear. It felt like it was the beginning of the rest of my life, like I was going to feel this way or worse forever. I couldn’t even get out of bed or leave the house, let alone tour, travel, socialise, work etc. And yet I made it through and learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of, so this song dives into my thoughts surrounding this period.”
Break You follows previous standalone Trash Boat single Liar Liar, which dropped last December. There's been no official word on a follow-up full-length to 2021's Don't You Feel Amazing?, but when we spoke to the band from the studio last year, Tobi said they're not even working in such a rigid way.
“What we’re trying to do is something like the hip-hop industry, where it’s wonderfully incestuous, and they’re all doing songs with each other, and they’re constantly in the studio. They’re not releasing albums, they’re releasing music. That’s what we’re going to be doing for the foreseeable future: we’re going to write consistent music, piece by piece, release them as songs, maybe find some cool features, maybe some collaborations, something like that. And then eventually, once we’ve written however many songs, it will probably end up turning into an album.”
