That Time A Vocal Harmony Group Nearly Caused A Riot Supporting Slipknot
When the Slipnutz opened for Slipknot, it didn't go down too well with the Maggots...
When we last saw Slipknot, they had the mighty Behemoth opening for them in a ferocious, Satanic, blackened death metal flurry of hellfire. The sort of band you'd expect to perform before one of the greatest and most intense live bands on the planet. But that wasn't always the case.
Back in 2005, thanks to a mixup from U.S. talk show host Conan O'Brien, the comedy vocal harmony group Slipnutz were booked to support Slipknot at the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. As you can imagine, the 10,000 screaming Maggots in attendance weren't fans of their slippery, nutty antics.
In the video below, we see the Slipnutz trio preparing before their first (and last) arena show, regaling us with a rather inconsistent story of how the group formed – Slipnut Brian claims it came to him in a vision, outfits and all.
Moments before going onstage, we see Jim Root, Clown and Craig Jones giving them a slight nod of approval… and then it's showtime.

The braying hordes have no idea that Slipnutz are coming onstage, which is instantly made clear from the boos, middle fingers and beers thrown onstage. They don't last long, however, as the New Jersey die-hards make their feelings felt loudly. Which is lucky, because things could have turned nasty quickly. Who wants to see three guys slip on some nuts when you could be watching The Nine tear through Eyeless?
You can watch it for yourself below, skip to 2:11 to see the report from the venue.
