The Smashing Pumpkins Announce North American Spring Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins announce their Rock Invasion 2 tour across the States.

In 1993, Chicago rock legends the Smashing Pumpkins set out on the Rock Invasion Tour for their breakout album Siamese Dream. Now, 27 years later, they've announced they will be embarking on a sequel to that trek, titled -- you guessed it -- Rock Invasion 2.

The Rock Invasion 2 tour starts in Kentucky in April and ends in North Carolina on at the beginning of May, including stops at festivals like Beale Street and Shaky Knees.

“It’s been a good while since we’ve played a straight-up, bare-knuckle rock and roll show -- one that avoids little in the way of raw power,” frontman Billy Corgan said in a statement. “So note: this tour won’t be for those faint of heart and will certainly echo the dynamic modes in which we built our live reputation.”

Presale starts March 3 at 10 am. Fans can sign up on the email list to get the password. Regular on-sale starts on March 6.

The Smashing Pumpkins will then join rock'n'roll giants Guns N’ Roses for six dates of their tour:

Corgan elaborated on the thinking behind the tour in an Instagram post.

“What’s left beyond the new record, our first double album effort since Machina?” he said. “Well, that’s simple: to rock. And not just a strong rock show, which is what we’ve been doing since the return of 2007. i’m talking about the kind of show and set we haven’t done for a very, very long time. If you’re an old school fan, you know what I’m talking about; and the descriptors are unnecessary. If you’re a new school fan, come see what the queasy legend was built on. Full, unrelenting power. Enjoy! And bring your ear plugs...”
