Scowl, Speed, ZULU and more announce Palestine benefit show
Having pulled out of Download Festival this weekend, Scowl, Speed, ZULU and Pest Control (and more) are coming together on Friday for a Palestine benefit show in Birmingham.
A last-minute gig in Birmingham has been announced to raise money for Palestinian aid and charities.
The show – taking place at Centrala on Friday, June 14 – includes a number of bands who recently pulled out of playing Download Festival.
Scowl, Speed, ZULU and Pest Control have teamed up for the benefit gig after all dropping off the Download line-up at the start of this week, and they’ll also be joined by Cauldron, IKHRAS and TRANSISTRRR in support.
The former four groups made a stand as part of the Bands Boycott Barclays campaign, with Pest Control writing in a statement that, “We will not take part in an event whose sponsor profits from facilitating a genocide.”
“We will not be playing Download fest this year due to Barclays Bank sponsorship of the event and Barclays’ connection to Israel and the genocide Israel is committing in Palestine,” wrote Scowl. “Free Palestine!”
Speed also said that they “will no longer be playing Download Festival this Friday June 14 due to the recent news of Barclays Banks sponsorship of the event and their involvement in the war in Gaza.”
