It has been reported that Steve Albini – who produced iconic albums by Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, The Breeders, Jesus Lizard and more – has passed away at the age of 61.
Punk rock legend and producing titan Steve Albini has died at the age of 61.
Pitchfork are reporting that Steve passed away due to a heart attack, with the news confirmed to the publication by staff at his Electrical Audio recording studio in Chicago. Rolling Stone write that he passed on Tuesday night, May 7.
Steve was not only known as being the producer behind iconic albums such as In Utero by Nirvana, Surfer Rosa by Pixies and PJ Harvey’s Rid Of Me, but also frontman of Big Black and Shellac – the latter of whom are releasing their first album in 10 years, To All Trains, on May 17.
