Oli Sykes says Bring Me The Horizon’s new album will be “unhinged”
Frontman Oli Sykes says Bring Me The Horizon want to “stop trying to make all the edges smooth” on upcoming album POST HUMAN: NeX GEn.
Fresh from their Download Festival headline stunner and announcement of next album POST HUMAN: NeX GEn, Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes has teased a bit about what’s to come from the band’s new music.
Speaking to NME about the long-awaited follow-up to Post Human: Survival Horror, the vocalist shares that he’s aiming for a more “unhinged” approach on this record, taking influence from his heroes in Glassjaw as well as the “obnoxious, trashy and in-your-face” feel of hyperpop.
“It’s not that we’ve lost that in our music, but as you become a bigger band, things do get more polished,” Oli explains. “I want to go the opposite way. Let’s be unhinged, let’s stop trying to make all the edges smooth.”
He adds: “There’s no, ‘That song could be played on the radio if we don’t scream.’ It’s almost like we’re connecting to that time before Bring Me The Horizon had any prospects of being a big band. Back then, there was never anything but, ‘What do you want to make?’ So we’re trying to tap back into that.”
POST HUMAN: NeX GEn will be released on September 15 via Sony/RCA, with the band then following things up a few months later with a massive UK arena tour.
