Noel Gallagher Wants To Start A Petition To Get Foo Fighters To Split Up
When Dave Grohl floated the idea of getting Oasis to reunite, Noel Gallagher responded by, well, being Noel Gallagher.
Overall, it looks like Foo Fighters had a bang-up time at Reading and Leeds, with frontman Dave Grohl paying tribute to The Prodigy's Keith Flint and performing with his daughter Violet. Along the way, Dave also said he'd like start a petition to get Oasis to reunite...which, of course, couldn't be left alone by Oasis' Noel Gallagher. So at a show in San Diego, Noel announced that he'd like to start his own petition, to get the Foo Fighters to break up.
According to Stereogum, it began with Dave Grohl at Reading, yelling out, "One of these days we’ll get Oasis back. Let’s sign a petition. Everyone here, okay? How many people wanna see Oasis fucking play a show?”
In response, Noel Gallagher spoke to the crowd at his own show in San Diego last night, saying, "Any Oasis fans in the house? Fuckin’ love that shit...Is anyone gonna sign the petition Dave Grohl wants to get together to get us back together? I’d like to start a petition to get the Foo Fighters to split up. If that would be at all possible.”

The problem with this, of course, is that being snarky about Dave Grohl makes you look silly. This is a dude still down to busk in the street, and invite five-year-olds to dance onstage, and play guitar with a blind fan. He dedicated the song My Hero to the medic who helped him with his broken leg. He played covers at a Dio tribute show, just because he loves metal. He's the George Bailey of rock'n'roll -- a dude it's actively hard to dislike.
Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher's own brother tweeted the following idea for the plot of the Oasis musical:
