London’s O2 Academy Brixton announces reopening date and first shows
The O2 Academy Brixton will be reopening its doors for the first time since December 2022, with a pair of comeback gigs featuring Nirvana and Foo Fighters tribute bands.
London’s O2 Academy Brixton is set to reopen in just over a month’s time.
The venue has been closed since December 2022 following a crowd crush that tragically left two gig-goers dead, but with many new “extensive and robust” safety measures presumably now in place, it’ll open its doors again on Friday, April 19.
The first planned show back will consist of performances by Nirvana and The Smiths tribute bands (Nirvana UK and The Smyths, respectively), before a week later on Friday, April 26 the venue will host Definitely Mightbe (an Oasis tribute band) and UK Foo Fighters (a Foos tribute band, obviously).
A brief statement from the venue simply reads: “O2 Academy Brixton will reopen on Friday 19 April with Nirvana UK (tribute to Nirvana) and The Smyths (tribute to The Smiths), followed by Friday 26 April with Definitely Mightbe (tribute to Oasis) and UK Foo Fighters (tribute to Foo Fighters).”
Beyond that, in May it looks like Editors and The Black Keys will be playing shows there, but that’s as far as the calendar goes so far.
