Watch Lamb Of God's raging Quarantine Session featuring performances of Checkmate, New Colossal Hate and Laid To Rest.

To celebrate the release of their self-titled new album, Lamb Of God have been engaging in a number of online events this week – their latest treat for fans being a raging three-song performance in lockdown.

The band's epic Quarantine Session featured a run-through of 2004 classic Laid To Rest – which originally appeared on LoG's major-label debut, Ashes Of The Wake – as well as new tracks New Colossal Hate and lead single Checkmate.

Discussing Checkmate and how it fits within the new Lamb Of God record, frontman Randy Blythe tells Kerrang!, “It’s the most on-the-nose track, politically, but this whole record is political.

“When we had [George W. Bush] during the Ashes Of The Wake era, he was a whole lot easier to write specifics about, because we had the war in Iraq and the mythical weapons of mass destruction. But right now, the political world everywhere looks like Pee-wee Herman’s Playhouse. Civility and discourse is at an all-time low, and that’s because people view political parties now not for their policies, but [as something to] support like sports teams. The lyrics reflect that. The system is a fucking fraud.”

He continues: “I can’t write about the Trump administration because it changes so quick. And if you look at the UK with Brexit, everything changes so fast it would be a fruitless exercise to try to pin a theme on one specific political topic. I wanted to look at the broader, wide-angle view of our global society, and figure out what has allowed this environment to occur.”
