In pictures: The Gaslight Anthem’s huge NHL performance at MetLife Stadium
With The Gaslight Anthem’s Howl serving as New Jersey Devils’ goal song for many years now, the band headed to the MetLife Stadium earlier this month to play it for their hometown team…
With The Gaslight Anthem gearing up to return to the UK and Europe next month, the band just warmed up for their impending headline tour in a pretty epic way.
The New Jersey rock heroes hit the massive MetLife Stadium on February 17 as part of the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series between the Philadelphia Flyers and the band’s local team, the New Jersey Devils.
For many years now, Gaslight’s 2012 fan-favourite track Howl (taken from their fourth album Handwritten) has been the Devils’ goal song, and as such they headed to the MetLife Stadium to play it after each goal scored by their team. During the first intermission, they also broke up the many performances of Howl with a three-song set of “45”, Great Expectations and The ’59 Sound.
“To have your song played after every time the hometown team scores is such an incredible honour and we can’t wait to play it live when our beloved Devils score in their Stadium Series game,” said frontman Brian Fallon before the game. “For a Jersey band, there’s no greater place to play than MetLife Stadium – we can’t wait!”
